Youth Leadership Conference |

Youth Leadership
Conference
The Youth Leadership Conference is a three
day, two night conference that empowers incoming high school freshmen through
graduating seniors. The conference will take place at Lewis University in
Romeoville, Illinois on June
28 - 30, 2013. There will be over
700 high school teens from all over the Joliet Diocese in attendance!! YLC is a powerful, spirit filled weekend ~ an
amazing conference for a
cost of $180.00 per person for registration which includes: Dorm
lodging, Registration for conference, 6 meals and a t-shirt.
The theme
for the 2013 Conference is
“Be Courageous”
He said, “O man of
high esteem, do not be afraid. Peace be with you; take courage and be
courageous!” Now as soon as he spoke to me, I received strength and said, “May
my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” Daniel 10:19
And Jesus stopped and
said “Call him here.” So they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take
courage, stand up! He is calling for you.” Mark 10:49
This
weekend you will be challenged to Be Courageous in your faith. We are looking
for you to have more than a good weekend but to learn more so that you have be
a witness to the world. Letting the
spirit within you roar!
During the
Conference there are times that we gather everyone together. Usually this will take place in the field
house at Lewis University. Our keynote
speaker plays a large part in these gatherings.
Steve
Angrisano
A veteran musician, composer and youth minister who has
been featured at 6 World Youth Days, several National Catholic Youth
Conferences and many diocesan youth conventions/conferences, Steve Angrisano’s
easy, honest style of ministry is born from who he is: a committed witness to
the life and love of Jesus Christ. No matter if the song is deep and moving
like Welcome Home or a driving anthem calling us to discipleship like Go Make A
Difference; whether the event is in an arena with tens of thousands of people,
a parish mission where hundreds participate, or a weekend youth retreat with
only dozens gathered, there is a consistent awareness that Steve is not just a
performer. His genuine and sincere desire to bring everyone to a closer
relationship with the Lord is what gives each event its own distinctive
spiritual energy.
Steve Angrisano is undoubtedly one of the most effective
and versatile ministry leaders in the Church today. Those who are young (and
young at heart) embrace the passionate message of faith, hope and love woven
throughout his music and storytelling. Always rooted in a spirit of humility
and faithfulness, Steve has a keen intuition regarding the needs of any
audience and engages them with his unique blend of humor, song, story and
interaction. This makes him both a natural and popular choice for diverse parish,
diocesan, national and world-wide events.
Though Steve spends a great deal of time in any given year
on the road (indicated by tens of thousands frequent flyer miles he’s earned)
and his life may seem to be a whirlwind of activity with little time left to be
‘contemplative’, he is a man of deep prayer who is devoted to his wife Jenni
and their three children. He has often said that he LOVES being Catholic and
encourages each of us to remember that to be holy means to start where we’re at
right now, because we are all called to be saints.
All participants must attend all of
their breakout sessions, workshops and prayer experiences.
See below for the specifics for your
Grade Level.
Freshmen (2017): Incoming high school freshmen will
meet together with their grade level for Friday/Sunday breakouts and during their
1st workshop on Saturday.
Sophomores (2016), Juniors (2015) and Seniors (2014): will meet with their Grade level for
Breakouts on Friday and Sunday. Also, they will select 3 workshops for
Saturday.
Grad Level Sessions: Those graduating in 2013 will attend grade
level sessions specially designed just for them on Friday and Sunday, along
with 3 workshops. They will not need
to select any workshop choices. Their sessions will be lead by Rich
Curran.
Workshops:
Topics include leadership
skills, personal development, or spirituality. These will form each youth to be
a leader in their parish, diocese, or high school programs, and in the larger
community. Youth Ministers should guide
their teens’ workshop choices. Workshop choices are on the youth registration
form. Youth will pick one (of 3) from
each category
Prayer Experiences:
This is special
time for all participants to engage in unique experiences of Catholic prayer
and devotion. This session takes place Sunday morning. This experience will
include an explanation, experience and reflection. Types of prayer experience
will be given for every participant to attend.
Participation in
Parish Time: This time is available for parishes to talk
with their youth and discover what the participants have experienced so far and
allow them to share with each other what they have learned. Take this opportunity to look at what is
coming next so the youth are able to participate more fully in the
experience. It is also a great time to
pray together. If your parish numbers
are small you may want to find another parish that has small numbers and join
together.

St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
