Holy Day Information
(All Masses and services are in English)
It may seem like the holy days change every year, however, the list of holy days remains the same for each year. In
addition to Sundays, there are five other days of obligation (The Solemnity of the Ascension has been permanently transferred to the following Sunday.)
Those days are:
January 1, The Blessed Virgin Mary, The Mother of God
August 15, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
November 1, All Saints
December 8, The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary
December 25, The Nativity of the Lord
What is confusing is that the obligation to attend Mass may change with only three of the holy days.
As a result, whenever,
January 1, The Blessed Virgin Mary, The Mother of God
August 15, The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
November 1, All Saints
fall on a Saturday or a Monday, the precept to attend Mass is lifted.
So, for 2005, since January 1 fell on a Saturday and since August 15 fell on a Monday, the obligation to attend Mass on those days is lifted.
